About Jay
Beyond the resume
Before senior living placement, Jay spent 25 years as a professional musician and pastor. He played piano - including for Englebert Humperdinck - to the delight of his grandmother - and music has stayed part of his life. His wife teaches violin, and together they occasionally bring students to perform at senior living communities where he works.
Assisted Living Locators – South Orange County provides free senior living placement and advisory services to families navigating the transition to assisted living, memory care, and residential care homes. Jay serves families across South Orange County, including the zip code areas covering Ladera Ranch, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, and surrounding communities.
His engagement begins with a conversation to understand care needs, budget, and preferences before any communities are contacted. He accompanies families on in-person tours and stays involved through every stage of the decision.
Jay came to senior living placement through two things: 25 years in pastoral ministry and a family experience that made the gap in the system personal. When his brother and their family needed to find a board and care home for a loved one, they were on their own: no guidance, no advocate, just the open market and a lot of frustration. When someone told him placement services existed, it clicked immediately. Not because of the business model, but because of what the work actually is: walking alongside people through one of the harder decisions they'll face.
That pastoral background shapes how he shows up. He doesn't see himself as a salesperson. He describes his role as being an advocate, as someone who collects a family's information, handles the community outreach on their behalf, and protects them from the flood of calls and pressure that can come when families start researching on their own. His process is deliberately unhurried. He accompanies tours with families, asks the harder questions, and helps them look past the brochure.
He's also paying attention to what he sees across families and sharing it. He talks openly with his network about the importance of planning earlier: getting power of attorney set up thoughtfully (not just sentimentally), understanding what aging life care coordinators can do, knowing that long-term care insurance and elder law attorneys aren't just for people in crisis. He's seen what happens when families arrive without any of that in place. He'd rather help people get ahead of it.
