About Brett Sanders
Beyond the resume
Brett is deeply embedded in the Northern Virginia senior care community, supporting organizations including Meals on Wheels, Dementia Friendly America, local Villages, Insight Memory Care Center, The Stroke Comeback Center, and Senior Services of Alexandria. Outside of work, he's a CrossFit regular, a Washington Nationals fan, and someone who'll show up for just about any live music event.
Assisting Hands Home Care Arlington provides non-medical in-home care for older adults throughout Northern Virginia, covering Arlington, Alexandria, and Fairfax County. Services include personal care, companionship, meal preparation, medication reminders, transportation, light housekeeping, respite care, post-hospital transition support, and 24-hour or live-in care.
The agency primarily serves private-pay clients and also works with families using VA benefits or long-term care insurance, including hands-on support with LTC insurance claims and reimbursements. Brett's team participates in the CMS GUIDE program for eligible dementia clients and offers a 24/7 remote monitoring solution and family portal for real-time updates — particularly valuable for families managing care from a distance. The engagement begins with a free consultation, typically followed by an in-home assessment.
Brett Sanders runs his agency the way he'd want someone to run it if his own family needed care. It's the filter he applies to hiring, caregiver matching, and the level of oversight he maintains as an owner-operator who's still directly involved in daily operations eight years in. When a family calls, Brett's team responds within an hour. When a situation gets complex, a solo-ager with no local family or a hospital that discharges someone too soon, Brett is often the one helping triage alongside his nurse.
What sets this agency apart is the clinical depth behind its care model. Assisting Hands Arlington is one of only seven home care providers in Northern Virginia accredited as a Parkinson's Provider by the Inova Parkinson's and Movement Disorders Center — a designation that required more than ten caregivers to complete specialized training co-developed with IPMDC and Pathways in Aging. Care plans are drafted by RNs with detailed, individualized instructions. Caregiver matching goes beyond availability, accounting for personality, lifestyle, and the kind of presence a client actually wants in their home.
Families consistently describe the same pattern: reliability when it counts, flexibility when things change, and an owner who is reachable and personally accountable. Several came to Brett's team after other agencies fell short on staffing or follow-through, and found a level of consistency and responsiveness they hadn't experienced before.

I wish I could give more than five stars for this review. Assisting Hands has gone above and beyond time and time again. We connected with them when another agency failed to be able to provide staffing for my elderly father. At the time, such assistance was critical for his safety. Assisting Hands provided an experienced caregiver with only a few hours notice on a Friday afternoon. In my experience, hiring a new agency typically take days or weeks, but Assisting Hands understood our urgent need and "bent over backwards" to help us. More than that, Brett, the owner of Assisting Hands, drove over personally to check on my father and to make sure staff understood my father’s needs. I was on the phone with Brett making near real time changes to the schedule throughout that weekend. Assisting Hands patiently accommodated all these changes. We have now moved my father’s care over to Assisting Hands exclusively. I don’t think I have ever encountered a business that demonstrates the compassion and empathy embodied by Assisting Hands. I highly recommend this agency.

February 2026My family relied on Assisting Hands for well over a year to help our loved one navigate memory loss. The team was extremely reliable on scheduling, selecting excellent caregiver matches for our family member, and remarkably flexible (as possible) for emergencies and shifting needs. It is clear they care about their mission and consistently show up when and how it counts.

October 2025When my Mom was discharged from the rehabilitation center almost 10 months ago, it became clear to our family that in order for her to remain safely in her home she would need assistance with meal preparation, bathing, dressing and household tasks. When I called Brett Sanders Owner/Administrator of Assisting Hands Home Care- he was positive and supportive and assured me that his agency would be able to assign caregivers to assist my Mom who has memory issues and declining mobility. The caregivers assigned to my Mom are all compassionate, competent and professional. The caregivers do a wonderful job following the plan of care that has been customized specifically for my Mom. Communication with all staff at Assisting Hands has been top notch. Any questions and requests I have made have always been answered professionally and in a very timely manner. This past weekend when there was a winter storm, the staff communicated and implemented a safe plan of care for my Mom and caregiver. My Mom and family are grateful to the staff of Assisting Hands who keep her safe, well cared for and happy in her beloved home each and every day.
