David Tasto
Outside of work, Dave speaks regularly to veterans' groups about accessing home care benefits, partners with the Massachusetts/New Hampshire chapter of the Alzheimer's Association and the Massachusetts chapter of the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, and serves on local non-profit boards. He also volunteers at his children's schools and his church, and is the author of Thriving at Home – A Handbook for Preventing Hospital Stays, a practical guide for older adults and families working to avoid hospitalizations. When he's not working, he's most likely hiking, sailing, or skiing with his wife, two kids, and whoever else they can convince to come along.
About David Tasto
VA Home Health Aide Program
Thriving
Assisting Hands Home Care - Boston Northwest, provides in-home care for older adults and individuals who need support at home, including personal care, companionship, transportation, and daily living assistance. Services range from a few hours a week to 24-hour and live-in care, and are available to private-pay clients as well as those with VA benefits or long-term care insurance.
The engagement begins with a phone consultation, followed by a free in-home safety evaluation, during which the team assesses the home environment and builds a care plan tailored to the client's needs, hospitalization history, and personal goals. Caregiver matching considers not just clinical needs but personality and lifestyle preferences, whether a client wants someone talkative, active, or simply steady company.
Dave Tasto came to home care through a personal experience that still shapes the way his team works today. During his grandmother's final months, her hospice caregivers went far above their role: styling her hair, painting her nails, and then even showing up at her wake to share stories. One caregiver mentioned how she swapped blouses between her own grandmother and Dave's, allowing his grandmother to still feel ‘dressed to the nines’ as she often said. They redefined what "care" could mean to him. That kind of care is what he set out to build.
His business runs on a framework he calls the Thriving at Home approach. It is a trademarked model focused on identifying and addressing the real causes of hospitalizations, not just managing daily tasks. Every new client receives a free in-home safety evaluation. Elite caregivers earn a Thriving at Home certification through supplemental training on preventing admissions and readmissions. Care plans are built around each client's personal goals, stressing the importance of the small things, like a love of Scrabble or a nightly glass of wine - because those details are what turn professional care into real care.
Families who work with his team often find that the caregivers they meet take ownership in ways they didn't expect. He described a recent example: on the eve of her last shift with a client, a caregiver quietly noticed the client was running low on wine, something she enjoyed in the evenings. The caregiver showed up on that final day with a small bouquet of flowers and a bottle of her favorite wine. The client was overwhelmed. That's the kind of moment Dave believes separates a good caregiver from an extraordinary one.

Assisting Hands has been absolutely wonderful to work with. They provided clear guidance on initiating my aunt’s Long Term Care Policy and have consistently delivered excellent home health care. Communication with Lori has been outstanding—her compassion and professionalism have helped my aunt and me navigate the challenges of chemotherapy with confidence and reassurance. I also want to recognize Dave for his leadership, John for his attentive case management, and Mayu for her dedicated and caring support. Each member of the team has gone above and beyond, making an incredibly difficult time more manageable. I cannot say enough positive things about Assisting Hands and the exceptional care they provide.

January 2026Assisting Hands did an OUTSTANDING job of helping us understand my mother-in-laws' Long Term Care (LTC) policy. They identified 2 additional benefits that will be super useful for us, we just didn't understand the language in the policy. We are now getting the full benefit of the policy thanks to Assisting Hands!

December 2026I cannot say enough about the kindness and professionalism of the caregivers and team at Assisting Hands Home Care. From the beginning, I felt my loved husband was in respectful and loving care. Meeting with Julie, who came highly recommended, put me at ease and gave me the confidence to proceed with the extra level of care my husband needed. The staff are beyond generous and caring and thoughtful. I am so grateful to have signed up for Assisting Hands Home Care. I recommend this wonderful organization. Thank you all.
