FirstLight Home Care of Alameda
Nicole Freeman
Nicole grew up in Alameda and came back as an adult to raise her family and build her business in the community she knows best. Before founding FirstLight, she spent 15+ years at Fortune 500 companies. Her grandfather - who built a real estate business from scratch after immigrating to the U.S - is part of why she became an entrepreneur herself. She watched him sweep sidewalks, fix roofs, and show up for his tenants with her alongside him. She wanted to do the same for her own kids. She has two children of her own now, and she's been thinking about what she wants them to see her building in this community.
About Nicole Freeman
FirstLight Home Care of Alameda provides in-home care for older adults and individuals who need support at home, including personal care, companion care, dementia care, respite care, and veteran care. Services range from a few hours a week to 24-hour and overnight care, with support available for hospital and rehab discharge transitions as well. The engagement begins with a phone consultation and an in-home assessment, where the team evaluates the home environment and builds a care plan around the client's needs and personal goals.
Nicole Freeman came to home care through a loss that still shapes the way she runs her business. When her grandfather began to decline, her family wasn't prepared - no plan, no resources, no shared understanding of what came next. She started FirstLight Home Care of Alameda because she didn't want other families to go through what hers did. She holds onto the perspective of the caregiver, asking herself what it would be like to show up for a particular family, and whether that match will actually work for everyone involved.
